Breathing under water

What kind of a blog title is that?
...dunno, but with the rain yesterday I feel that is where I am at.
Still no snow.

SO what is a girl to do?

I have to hang wet yarn on every little hook and hanger I can find inside.

No Snow !

Summer's here and time for a picnic!

Yep that is what it feels like in Montucky.
My kids are beyond whiiiine mode...
When will it snow?
Mom, why is there no snow?

...Well, maybe you should have asked Santa for that this Christmas...

Their poor little droopy faces looking out the window wishing for the white stuff.
-Just doesn't seem fair.
Snow skates, skis and sleds all waiting to be adored.

I am having a

Stop on by.

...in the meantime hoping Suzie Snowflake wil arrive soon.

Winter Garden

Still a little seeds for the birds
I never cut down my perennials this year.

Isn't the rototiller supposed to be " in" the garden shed?
- well, at least it's on front....

Some leftover roving from this fall
still drying on the clothes line.

Pines suggesting a snowball fight...

A peaceful spot in my garden

Milk weed

We adopted!

Meet
Lilly

Our new love and addition to our family.
Lilly is almost 2 yrs old and a lab, terrier, beagle mix
Same birthday as Luther April 13th
(coincidence...I think not)

Lilly had 2 homes before I adopted her from the pound.

Her name was "Baby" and she had pink nail polish on her nails.

The minute she came home I renamed her
Lilly
removed her nail polish
took her and the kids to Glacier Park and threw her in the lake.
A christening of sorts.

I wanted her to swim
be in the fresh air and sunshine
be a dog

She is now part of a family
4 children
Pierre & me
Mimi
Luther Vandross

 ....who all love her....

It is snowing like crazy outside and
she is playing & running around chasing Luther on our 5 acres....
they look like 2 snow ghosts pummeling around in the white stuff
~  and...she is free  ~

*****

Love in the car

Luther...you better watch it...
I called shotgun

But I can still give you a little kiss.

...and that is all Luther wanted in the first place.

Summer's secret

I don't what it is about winter
and the anticipation of it's arrival.
Bidding farewell to summers warmth and light.
Greeting the cold and dark days to come.

In so doing
Noticing things I did not before.
Small things
 that were insignificant
 before.

Paying more attention to the little details.
During these frosty morning walks,
 they become remarkable.

Maybe it's their season to shine?

I see them with fresh eyes and appreciation.

The stillness and quiet
the cold and frost.
Opens my heart to new summer secrets.

Of winter's lifeless world each tree
Now seems a perfect part;
Yet each one holds summer's secret
Deep down within its heart.

Soul space

As of late we- I have had a very hectic life.
Much has changed with my kids and also my husband and his new career.
Sometimes I feel like all I can do is hang on.
Helping and supporting my family in anyway I can is my first priority...sometimes because it's a necessity.
The feeling of loosing my self in my husband and 4 children's life comes up now and then.
~

So I found many ways of giving my self
 "Soul space"
I need to take care of my soul...
how else will it take care of me?

Most days I start with my yoga practice.
It helps center me.
Breathing.
An elixir that I can no longer live without - especially living in the dark winters here in Montana.
Yoga is part of me.

No.1 Yoga

Then I might dive into my knitting basket and pull out something that looks appealing.
Knitting has always been my "Happy place"

No.2  Knitting

The days are very grey as mentioned
and as I was taking this image of my cardi
in the window sill....
funny thing I noticed the "warning" sign.
I didn't crop it.
Could be a little sign... my soul speaking
take some time.
Make a little space for me ( my soul)
Warning...don't forget.

Another thing that feeds my soul is literal.
"Food"

Yes, food.

I love food.
In the winter time I drink my fair share of hot cocoa.
Gallons.
There is nothing so satisfying as a hot cup of cocoa by the the warm fire.
Then of course I start dreaming of dinner...
Pasta tonight with a fresh green salad
simple olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette
 with a lovely red cab.
I can smell it.
My soul is smiling now.

# 3 Food.

and last but not least...
the weekend
relax
with ...my family.
It takes a village.
and yes that is what we are doing baking a village.
Instead of baking/creating a laaaarge ginger bread house that Mimi- our cat likes to wander thru
and eventually collapses.
We are all making/baking small individual houses to put together as a village
With the 6 of us I think it will be pretty neat.

No. 4 Family

Isn't funny how I needed space from them
only to be drawn back in....
My soul loves their space.

Full of energy, love and happiness.

( Did you believe that?)

When they are not fighting, yelling or pouting....no?

Now in my yarn basket
I do see a sock yarn that I dyed this summer that is calling my name...
you can never have too many socks.
ehem.... nothing like having 39 projects going on at once.
Makes my soul happy.

I think bottom line is
as long as you can do what you want to do once in a while
by your self or with someone
it creates a lovely and well needed space
for your soul to grow and to just
be.

How do you create Soul Space?

~ With an open heart~

After closing my old blog "Bloom" I took a break from anything that had to do with blogging.

I was experiencing a very difficult time with my father
finding that some of those personal issues
were showing up when reading between the lines
on my blog.

"Bloom" had become a place of sadness- void of inspiration and joy.
As if walking into a messy room that desperately needed to be cleaned.

Instead
 I closed the door.
and my heart.

As they say " this too shall pass"
...and it did

I did clean up my room.
gave it a fresh coat of paint
and opened all the windows to let in fresh air...
feeling
refreshed & renewed

I created a new blog
"Free range chick"

we'll see what happens?

Looking forward to being part of the online community once again
with friends near and far

with an open heart.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched …but are felt in the heart.
